Teacher Certification and Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Programs
Turn Your Passion into Your Profession
Start Your Teaching Career with Ease — Earn Certification and a Master’s Degree
At 91¿´Æ¬, you can become a certified teacher efficiently and effectively, no matter your undergraduate major. Our streamlined Teacher Certification program leads directly to initial teacher certification in Pennsylvania, and with just one additional course, you can also earn your Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT).
Whether you're changing careers or discovering a new calling, this program offers a practical, supportive path into the classroom all designed with your busy life in mind.
Two Options, One Clear Pathway
1. Teacher Certification Program
For those who want to focus solely on becoming a certified teacher, our teacher certification program provides the coursework and support you need to meet Pennsylvania state requirements.
- Open to individuals with any bachelor’s degree
- Leads to Instructional I Certification in Pennsylvania
- Aligned with your chosen certification area (e.g., English 7–12, Math 7–12, PreK–4, etc.)
Designed to prepare you for the Praxis and effective classroom practice
2. Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT)
Want to earn a master’s degree too? You’re one course away.
After completing your teacher certification coursework, you can take just one additional class to earn your MAT. It’s that simple. Most of our students take advantage of this opportunity, gaining a graduate degree while completing certification.
- Adds value and flexibility to your teaching career
- Enhances your knowledge of reflective, research-based teaching practices
- Improves long-term career growth and earning potential

How Certification Works in Pennsylvania
You don’t need a degree in education to become a certified teacher in Pennsylvania. Here's what you need:
- A bachelor’s degree (in any field)
- A passing score on the Praxis exam in your chosen certification area (this can be done between your introductory courses and higher level courses)
- Completion of a state-approved teacher certification program — like Moravian’s
Once you complete the teacher certification program or MAT program and pass the Praxis, you’ll be eligible for your Instructional I Certification — the first level of teacher licensure in PA.
